Ralph Humphrey

Ralph Humphrey (1932 - 1990) was active/lived in New York.  Ralph Humphrey is known for Abstraction, mod genre, collage.

Minimalist, abstractionist Ralph Humphrey was born in 1932, dying at fifty-eight years of age in 1990. His work was related to that of minimalist Brice Marden in the early 1960s. Humphrey worked with stain paintings in 1967-1968, and shaped canvases in 1971, moving, later in the 70s, toward a more figurative mode like "Loner," a central window-like image in the collection of Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio.

Humphrey was given a posthumous exhibition in 1998 at the Danese Gallery, in New York City, in conjunction with Daniel Weinberg Contemporary Art, San Francisco, California, and the estate of the artist. A thirty-two page catalogue was produced, featuring an essay by Klaus Kertess.
